It’s My Birthday … And I Want to Know!

My treat to myself .. it knows when I touch it! You can enter to win one of these beauties, too!

So, today is my birthday.   I never knew anybody with my same birthday when I was growing up.  But, several years ago, when my youngest son was in kindergarten, during ‘sharing’ he told the class that today was his mommy’s birthday.  Well, one of his classmates piped up that it was also her mother’s birthday.  And then a 3rd child – same story.

Of course, the teacher was a bit skeptical that all 3 kid’s mom’s in her class had the same birthday – but it was true!  We were living on a military base at the time, and they were all my friends, too — but we didn’t know we shared the same birthday until these kids all piped up!

These Gators still keep the snow out of my boots and my legs warm!

These Gators still keep the snow out of my boots and my legs warm!

Anyway, I am always surprised at how quickly this date keeps swinging around – I’m sure you all feel the same, too, on your birthday.  I started to think back over my birthdays of the past,  and was remembering some of the treasured gifts I’ve received.   Back when I was 17, I was looking through some magazines, and saw a jacket I really loved.  It was a purple ski jacket and it had matching gators.  I couldn’t believe several months later on my 18th birthday I came downstairs and there was the jacket and gators laid out on the couch!

I was so stunned.  I have 6 sisters, so funds for birthdays were pretty tight, but my mom and dad really pushed the limit for that year, and I really understood and appreciated what they did.   I don’t have the jacket anymore, but I still have those gators …. and … I’d rather not think about how long I’ve had them!

Tuesday’s LATE NIGHT Talkabout (just a little bit late!)

Tuesday's Talkabout - where we show what were all dabbling, babbling and gabbying in!It’s time for “TueWednesday’s” Talkabout!  Have you ever had one of those days when you just “Can’t Get To It” ?   Well, that’s my day earlier today, or by the time you get this, yesterday!  I’m Sheanna, and I think my motto should be Makes Great Lists But Doesn’t Do Them.  (and not because I don’t want to!).

She’s right (Barb here) – I witnessed her Oh-So-Crazy day.   Sheanna does make great lists, but I’m betting she didn’t do anything on it today (until now, when we are finally getting to this Talkabout!).  I’m not so much of a list maker – it just makes me more frustrated when I don’t get anything on the list done, so instead I’m just happy with the little I do finish!

So, what about you?  Are you a List Maker or a Fly by the Seat of My Pants kind of person?  I want to know!

Ok, so it’s time to announce our winner from last week’s question, what is your favorite type of fabric.  We had a lot more entries this week (who doesn’t want a shopping spree of any sort?), which we were so happy to see.  Thank you to all who commented!

Yep, this week the winner is a gal with tastes after my own heart .. batiks.  Joan H is the winner of the $15 Gift Certificate- congratulations Joan!  I don’t want to tell you how to spend it, but I have to say, one of my favorite things on the site right now is the Christmas Snuggler .. OK, it’s not Batiks, but it is Minky!!

It’s been so UNBELIEVABLY cold here in Colorado the past several days, that I think I might even make a Minky kit!  I don’t know if you’ve ever made a Minky quilt, but it can be quite messy.  But, I do have a favorite Minky Tips and Trick I learned last year .. I just get a lint roller and keep it next to me .. then I de-Minky me, the board and the floor throughout the project.  Keeps me a bit more sane!

Wsewing projects 11.4.13 127-Linda-Je want to thank you for the Customer Creations that keep rolling in.  Today we are featuring a Twin sized quilt by Linda J — what a fun project she did here! Linda says that the quilt is a gift for an up coming wedding and the couple are cat lovers.

It’s hard to see in the image, but to give you an idea, the purple block is a “Bunch of Cats” rather than a Bunch of Grapes!  Thank you for your entry, Linda!

Creative TeamFor the Creative Team feature, we have a beautiful quilt that I made for my sister.  This is a Mother’s Day Quilt, and I was just so happy with it.  I used Lakehouse fabrics and then did a lightly scalloped inner border to make this ideal lap size quilt.

It seems a bit early, but I may need to make this for my special Auntie Joan.  I think I should put it on my list … or Barb, will you make it for me?  Ha. I didn’t think so (you should see the look she gave me!)…

Simple Gatherings

Simple Gatherings

OK, so you may be wondering why Sheanna didn’t get much done yesterday (or maybe you aren’t).  But, what kept her from getting anything on that list done was that we received lots of new fabrics and patterns, and Teresa had 2 sales reps come by  (and we always have to poke our noses in so we can oh and ah!), and we planned out 2 more Block of the Months for 2014!

We aren’t allowed to reveal the new BOMs at the moment … but OH MY GOSH!  They both use Moda fabrics, and I can’t wait until you get to see them.  But, I will spill the beans on one of them …let me just say “Kansas Troubles” and “Christmas” in the same sentence.

But, I did add something I love .. more Simple Gatherings Kits !  This kit is fun because it combines wool and cotton – and I do love those combos!

And Sheanna – don’t you get us in hot water spilling the beans!  OK, a bit of hot anything sounds nice around here with how cold it’s been.

You should see our UPS guy.  Talk about hot.  OH, and the Fed Ex guy is ‘fly’ too.  Of course, my hubby’s not so bad, either.

Sheanna!  Thank fabric.  Geez.   OK, we are going to call this a wrap, but we want to know… Are you a List Maker or a Fly by the Seat of your Pants kind of person?  Let us know .. we have a fun gift for you that we’ll announce next week!

Thanks for visiting ..  And be Sure to Follow Our Blog so you Don’t Miss a Thing!

As the Holidays are literally upon us, we wanted to do something to help you put your fee up .. .Literally!   Today’s Happy Hour features one of my FAVORITE things … the Stitchers Foot Rest / Stool.  I Love my stool.  I take it on airplanes and in the car for longer trips.  I use it at home when watching tv, and especially when I’m doing any kind of stitching or binding.  It folds down to be so portable, but it is sturdy, too.  I’ve used it to hang up the lights over my window when I just need a few inches more to my reach.  Stitcher's Foot Rest

This stool is a Must Have for quilters, sewers, stitchers, rug hookers, and travelers alike.

This stool is 5″ high, and when folded down for storage or travel is only 3″ wide!   Regularly priced at $49.99, during Happy Hour today only, you can get this perfect little companion for just $39.99 plus shipping costs.   Click Here for more information and to order yours.  Plus, if you order 4 or more, shipping will be free!  Get one for each of your best quilting buds 🙂

Time to Vote – Week 5 of the 2014 BOM Challenge!

To Mulberry Moody or Mulberry Batik?

To Mulberry Moody or Mulberry Batik?

The Votes are in from Week #4 Challenge .. and you all had an extra week in there to vote!  The winner of the Balitmore Brides vs the Floral Beauty is …..Baltimore Brides!   That was a tough choice for me as I’ve seen both in person .. and no picture could EVER do these (or any other quilt for that matter!) justice.

Ok, so you are NOT seeing things here!  We JUST added the Moody Mulberry BOM this morning.  After seeing how popular the Batik Mulberry is, we know now that many of you will be struggling to decide which is the most spectacular!

The design is by our friends at Wing and a Prayer (don’t you just love what Toni and Jenny can do with fabric?) and both are a king size Block of the Month.   If you gotta make one (or both) you can get More Information Here.

NOTE:  Along with the Poll, please let us know “I Voted” in the Comments Section so we can have a special give away at the end of the Challenge!

Tuesday’s Talkabout

Tuesday's Talkabout - where we show what were all dabbling, babbling and gabbying in!It’s time for Tuesday’s Talkabout!  But, we need to introduce ourselves – we should have done this sooner!  On the left, my name is Sheanna – I am just a quilter who loves to poke around different quilting blogs – I can learn so much from all you smart quilters! My favorite fabrics are Cottons and Batiks – and I love MINKY!

And on the right, I’m Barb!  I am also a quilter, but my favorite thing to do is just let fabric ‘speak’ to me!  I love to work with wool, flannel and silks!   And, be sure to see below … we want to know your favorite, and there’s a prize to give away!

So, last week we were ‘dark’ .. we didn’t get a chance to post on Tuesday – and we are so sorry!      Yes, because we needed announce our Talkabout Winner – and it was easy with just 5 entries.  All we had to do was put those names into a box .. and voila!  Our winner is goonyburd!    Goonyburd (love the name) is the winner of a $20 Gift Certificate that Teresa gave us to do what we will … and stay tuned, because she’s given us more!

Baltimore Brides by Karen

Baltimore Brides by Karen

This week’s Talkabout Customer Creation is by Karen!   It’s a Baltimore Brides Wool on Flannel kit that she started with us last year.

What amazes me is that Karen kept up with the BOM!  I’m not so good about that!  I am usually about 4 months behind.  But, this sure inspires me to get another block done.  I’m actually not doing this one, but a similar one that is wool on wool called Antique 1800-1940s .. and I love it!3-Musketeers

And, lets show this weeks Creative Team feature!  So Teresa had this one in her vault.  She didn’t want to display the quilt the ‘usual’ way .. but I think this is ingenious!  This is a quilt from a Patchwork Party several years back.     Yep – and I heard a rumor that she is redesigning the sampler blocks and we will get to have this beautiful quilt available to all!

So, I’ve been poking around some of the blogs that you folks are up to, and this time I’m excited to feature Alice from Future Girl Blog   Now, this gal can knit!  But, what I really love are the Fanged Pumpkins – be sure to scroll down.  Also, drop Alice a note to let her know you were there!

As you can all imagine, things are really hopping at Homespun Hearth these days.  Last night the huge Giveaway ended, and the winners can be found here.  But, it turns out we went from one great Giveaway to ANOTHER!  Yesterday we launched the 11th Annual 12 Days of Quilting!  Another Giveaway, and this one will have 12 Prizes and 12 Winners!  Be sure to hop on over to check it out HERE.

Finally, we want to know YOUR Favorite Fabrics!  This week we have a $15 Voucher to give away — just leave us a comment here with your favorite fabric – and if you want to get detailed, such as letting us know your favorite manufacturer (ie:  Lecien Cottons, or Hoffman Batiks, etc) – that would be awesome!   Next week we’ll announce the winner.

In the mean time, Don’t Miss a Thing!  Be sure to Follow this blog, and click on the icons below to stay connected — so many things happening ALL THE TIME at Homespun Hearth!

It’s Time To Vote – Week 4 – 2014 Block of the Month Challenge!

Week #3 votes are in, and the winner is the Red version of the Tours de Jardin! While we had a lot of votes, only a handful of you let us know you voted. Be sure to let us know – this way you can be included in the special Voters Giveaway we will have at the end of the voting! If you’ve been keeping track like we have, the winners are the A-Z for week 1, the Black Hot Flashes in week 2, and the Red Tours de Jardin in week 3. So, for week 4, we are mixing things up just a bit …

Quilt-Combo-41847 Baltimore Brides Antique Wool Quilt or Floral Beauty Wool Quilt?    I love the look of both of these quilts .. and I’ve seen the originals up close … and these pictures just will never do them justice!    Two totally different types of designs, you can se how talented each of the designers are.

The Baltimore Brides Quilt, by Jackie Apessos, is unique because it is wool applique on cotton flannel.  The old style motifs are clean and really showcase the heirlooms made in the 1800s.

But, then there’s the Floral Beauty!  The quilt, called The Original Thymes, is a detailed look into a Wild Thymes Garden!  The intricate florals and unique outer border really make this a more modern type quilt than the Baltimore Brides.  The Original Thymes is all wool on wool.  Two totally different quilts, each an Heirloom to be passed on from generation to generation!

NOTE:  Along with the Poll, please let us know “I Voted” in the Comments Section so we can have a special give away at the end of the Challenge!

It’s Time for Tuesday’s Talkabout! Blogs, Creations, $20 Gift Drawing and More!

Tuesday's Talkabout - where we show what were all dabbling, babbling and gabbying in! Hello again!  We are so excited about this week’s Tuesday’s Talkabout – we have a great customer blog to feature, plus we’ve been busy adding lots of new items this week – so grab your favorite relaxing drink, and let’s get started!  Also, be sure o follow our blog on the right so you don’t miss a thing!

This week’s Customer Creation is by Cindy M.  Do you recognize Moda’s Maypole Fabric from several years ago?  This is one of our exclusive kits, and it looks like Cindy is ready to get this baby quilted.  Also, if you look up, you can see another of Cindy’s creations on the wall.  Looks like she is a busy little quilter.  Thank you for sharing, Cindy!

Customer Creation is by Cindy M

Next, we finally decided on this week’s Customer Blog.  It has been so fun to see what so many of you are up to, and rather than just picking our favorite, we are now just deciding randomly.  We continue to receive links to your blogs, so please keep them coming!   And .. all the way from Italy, we are featuring this lovely blog by Chiara.   Loving those pincushions!

Julie’s Creation

Now, Julie, a key member on our Creative Team, is always busy making, creating, or just thinking of something.  This week I am happy to show you one of my favorites that she’s done (OK .. had to be somewhat random with this, too, as I love everything she does!).   Don’t you just love Robyn Pandolph’s fabrics?  This is such a soft quilt, and it was much easier to make than it looks (Julie always finds quicker and easier short-cuts than the patterns call for!).  Thank you Julie — I know we have lots more to see!

Homespun Hearth Haps — Did I mention we’ve been crazy busy lately?  Well, we found what might be called a ‘junk’ drawer (OK, not junk!), full of goodies that never made it online!  So many fun things have been added, but my favorite are the Hand Made Clay Buttons.   But, I want to know what is your favorite item that we’ve added.  So, let us know in the comments section, which of the New Items is your favorite, and next Tuesday we will have a quick drawing, and one of you will win a $20 Gift Certificate!

Hand Made Clay Buttons

Giveway – Earn your Chance!  We are still taking entries for our 2013 5th Annual Give Away!  Every day there are little things you can do to keep adding to your chances to win.  I’m thinking that just about every one of us could use $250 in fabrics, or kits, or notions … and, there are additional great prizes, too!

We thank you for joining us this week.  Don’t forget to look at all of the newest items, and let us know which is your favorite.  You could win a $20 Gift Certificate!
