Tuesday’s LATE NIGHT Talkabout (just a little bit late!)

Tuesday's Talkabout - where we show what were all dabbling, babbling and gabbying in!It’s time for “TueWednesday’s” Talkabout!  Have you ever had one of those days when you just “Can’t Get To It” ?   Well, that’s my day earlier today, or by the time you get this, yesterday!  I’m Sheanna, and I think my motto should be Makes Great Lists But Doesn’t Do Them.  (and not because I don’t want to!).

She’s right (Barb here) – I witnessed her Oh-So-Crazy day.   Sheanna does make great lists, but I’m betting she didn’t do anything on it today (until now, when we are finally getting to this Talkabout!).  I’m not so much of a list maker – it just makes me more frustrated when I don’t get anything on the list done, so instead I’m just happy with the little I do finish!

So, what about you?  Are you a List Maker or a Fly by the Seat of My Pants kind of person?  I want to know!

Ok, so it’s time to announce our winner from last week’s question, what is your favorite type of fabric.  We had a lot more entries this week (who doesn’t want a shopping spree of any sort?), which we were so happy to see.  Thank you to all who commented!

Yep, this week the winner is a gal with tastes after my own heart .. batiks.  Joan H is the winner of the $15 Gift Certificate- congratulations Joan!  I don’t want to tell you how to spend it, but I have to say, one of my favorite things on the site right now is the Christmas Snuggler .. OK, it’s not Batiks, but it is Minky!!

It’s been so UNBELIEVABLY cold here in Colorado the past several days, that I think I might even make a Minky kit!  I don’t know if you’ve ever made a Minky quilt, but it can be quite messy.  But, I do have a favorite Minky Tips and Trick I learned last year .. I just get a lint roller and keep it next to me .. then I de-Minky me, the board and the floor throughout the project.  Keeps me a bit more sane!

Wsewing projects 11.4.13 127-Linda-Je want to thank you for the Customer Creations that keep rolling in.  Today we are featuring a Twin sized quilt by Linda J — what a fun project she did here! Linda says that the quilt is a gift for an up coming wedding and the couple are cat lovers.

It’s hard to see in the image, but to give you an idea, the purple block is a “Bunch of Cats” rather than a Bunch of Grapes!  Thank you for your entry, Linda!

Creative TeamFor the Creative Team feature, we have a beautiful quilt that I made for my sister.  This is a Mother’s Day Quilt, and I was just so happy with it.  I used Lakehouse fabrics and then did a lightly scalloped inner border to make this ideal lap size quilt.

It seems a bit early, but I may need to make this for my special Auntie Joan.  I think I should put it on my list … or Barb, will you make it for me?  Ha. I didn’t think so (you should see the look she gave me!)…

Simple Gatherings

Simple Gatherings

OK, so you may be wondering why Sheanna didn’t get much done yesterday (or maybe you aren’t).  But, what kept her from getting anything on that list done was that we received lots of new fabrics and patterns, and Teresa had 2 sales reps come by  (and we always have to poke our noses in so we can oh and ah!), and we planned out 2 more Block of the Months for 2014!

We aren’t allowed to reveal the new BOMs at the moment … but OH MY GOSH!  They both use Moda fabrics, and I can’t wait until you get to see them.  But, I will spill the beans on one of them …let me just say “Kansas Troubles” and “Christmas” in the same sentence.

But, I did add something I love .. more Simple Gatherings Kits !  This kit is fun because it combines wool and cotton – and I do love those combos!

And Sheanna – don’t you get us in hot water spilling the beans!  OK, a bit of hot anything sounds nice around here with how cold it’s been.

You should see our UPS guy.  Talk about hot.  OH, and the Fed Ex guy is ‘fly’ too.  Of course, my hubby’s not so bad, either.

Sheanna!  Thank fabric.  Geez.   OK, we are going to call this a wrap, but we want to know… Are you a List Maker or a Fly by the Seat of your Pants kind of person?  Let us know .. we have a fun gift for you that we’ll announce next week!

Thanks for visiting ..  And be Sure to Follow Our Blog so you Don’t Miss a Thing!

How Many Winners Today?

Whew … Right now I feel a little bit in a daze! I know we all have so much going on … in our personal as well as professional lives. Together with the Harvest Festival we have going on right now, as well as the Thanksgiving Holiday and now Christmas preparations, we are being pulled in so many directions! But, that doesn’t mean we have forgotten you. Still, my favorite thing to do when a take a few moments each day is to read the kind deeds you all are doing.

I realized last night that some of you may be wondering what we are doing to contribute to the kind acts. Inspired by many of you, we have had a week of giving around here … cleaning out closets and donating 8 giant bags of clothes, plus we brought in dozens of like-new toys, games and puzzles. My husband and son worked at the soup kitchen all day on Monday – they served over 600 people that day – and you can believe it made quite an impression on my teenager. I have also been making my boys more aware of what’s going on around them … pointing out a lady to help with her grocery cart (they get stuck in the snow on the way out to the car), and I had my oldest offer to pump the gas for an older man – the gentleman told me it reminded him of the old days when that was part of the service – and was so thankful! We have a homeless man who lives down in town, and so we picked up a pre-cooked chicken for him, a couple of apples, a bag of cookies, and a couple of water bottles – the smile alone was a huge reward. As you can imagine, we have become quite friendly with our local PO. So, we brought in a batch of fudge on Wednesday – they were all so grateful to know that we care! Because we are involved in the Scouts, I always order extra wreaths, trees & centerpieces – and bring them to 3 of the senior citizen homes around here. While we have had such a giving week, what I’m really trying to instill in my boys is the importance of year round thoughtfulness – my boys are very fortunate, so it is their responsibility to help those around them.

Okay, so now on to the past few days of winners. Where were we? Oh Yeah .. Days 21 – 28 … Yikes! But, that’s ok – we have something special for each of these winners … they each receive a $25 Gift Certificate from Homespun Hearth! These Gift Certificates are valid from December 1 – 31, 2009, so they can have a little something extra to spend for the holidays.

Our Day 20-28 Winners are…
Patty – 11/25 Post
Kate – 11/22 Post
Karen Propes – 11/22 Post
Cindy C. – 11/20 Post
Linda Lee NH – 11/11 Post

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

So, we are nearing the end of our 30 Days of Giving.  On Monday we are going to have 4 Drawings!  2 for the 30 Days of Giving, and 2 for the Harvest Festival!  We have had so much fun with both of these, and it still is not too late for you to be a part of the fun.  If you would like to be entered into our Grand Prize Drawing for the 30 Days, 30 Gifts, 30 Winners Drawing, then be sure to let us know what kind deeds you are up to!  Simply blog us at any of the posts this month, and your name will be added to the drawing ‘bowl’.  Also, for those of you who make a Homespun Hearth purchase between 11/25 and 11/29, you are eligible to win a $100 Shopping Spree or a $50 Surprise Gift… the drawing for these is also on Monday 11/30!

And, it is just about time that you will be able to spend your Homespun Reward Discounts for 2009.  For the month of December, the accumulated points translate into  discounts for the entire month of December.

Have a wonderful day!

30 Days, 30 Gifts, Days 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 – 6 Winners!

Good morning and Happy Friday to All!   Wow – we have had a crazy week around here.  With the launch of our new Sewing Room Furniture, the start of the Holiday Fab Shop Hop, and the introduction of  Better Homes & Gardens Magazine Clubs, all of those New Quilt Kits, patterns and books,  we spent the better part of the week pinging in several directions… and I did not get any quilting done as planned..

So, we are drawing names for several  Days –  15 – 20!.  We have lots of fun gifts, so here we go.  We are going to spread-out the giving in this blog  🙂

Quilt Sampler Club - 2 Publications per Year

Our Day 15 & 16 Winners are…
11/14 #3 – Michelle &  11/13 #13 – Sharon Hettinger !! Congratulations and Thank you!
Both Michelle and Sharon win a 1 year subscription the Quilt Sampler Magazine Club  …  the Gift that just keeps giving!    Quilt Sampler has 2x publications a year – in May and September.  Congratulations!

From the emails and blogs we’ve received, it sounds like everybody is pretty excited about the chance to win the Suzi.   And, hands down, the most popular Sewing cabinet so far is the Marilyn.  But, I’m not surprised – it is Arrow’s most popular cabinet, too – not only is she compact, but she is a lovely piece of furniture as well.    We had one customer purchase 2 of the Sewnatras – she said she was going to use both as nightstands next to her bed –  and one will hold her machine, and the other to hold a Singer Featherweight  that she has on her Christmas list.  What a great idea!   And, together with the free shipping, Mettler Thread Combo and Vusion Light, it really makes these deluxe cabinets a steal.  As far as the promotional suites that Kangaroo is running right now, the favorite is the Aussie Suite.  Looking at it, it seems to provide the most work surface and storage, but it a bit less expensive than the Kangaroo Suite.

Quilts & More - 2x per year

Our Day 17 & 18 Winners are…
11/19 – Marcia & 11/12 – Elaine!! Congratulations and Thank you!

Both Marcia and Elaine win a 1 year subscription to the Quilts & More Magazine Club … another Gift that just keeps giving!  Quilts & More has 4x publications a year – March, May, August & November.  Congratulations!

We received the sweetest email Tuesday morning  from Darla T.  She asked us “why are you being so generous – what do you get in return? ”  The email had a lot of other sweet comments, but this just made me smile.  Do you realize how much we feel part of such a bigger picture around here?  It sounds to me that what we are doing is having a profound affect on so many of you – not that you aren’t always givers, but that it seems everybody is making an extra effort to do a bit more.  And, because we don’t get out much, we are also living somewhat vicariously through your good deeds as well.  We all want to thank YOU for YOUR generostity!

And Finally, Our Day 19 & 20 Winners are…
11/16 – Melissa & 11/15 – Irene Schofield!  Congratulations and Thank you!

Both Melissa and Irene win a 1 year subscription to the BHG Quilt Magazine Specials Club .. yet another Gift that just keeps giving!  Better Homes & Gardens publishes 2x Specials each year – in March and October.

30 Days, 30 Gifts, Day 13 Winner

Good Morning Everybody!   Can you believe it is Friday?  We are so excited… this is going to be a big weekend.  The surprise announcement will be on Sunday – and all of you have the opportunity to be a big winner!  Plus, we have a couple of new clubs to announce.

And how do you like that new quilt, Your Home or Mine??!!!   Liz and Julie worked on this together over the past couple of months – and I think it is stunning.  The Moda Heritage fabrics are such a gorgeous compliment to this quilt … which was not an easy quilt at all!  With all of the applique and stitchery, these two put in a lot of late nights.  And, I can’t believe it, but they have another colorway they are working on right now, too!  It turns out that Liz does gorgeous stitching, and Julie is an applique pro – what a great way to share the fun in a quilt like this!

Today we are also sending out the Serengeti Quilt kits – and will receive another fabric shipment on Monday – these things are so wild, they are literally  running out the door!  All orders placed through 11/7 will ship today, and the remaining will ship on Wednesday.

Petite Frosted Candles

Ok – so, for today’s winner we wanted to give something very sweet.  It is the Petite Frosted Candles.  So sweet and we know this will help bring in the season.  Our Day 13 Winner is…
11/10  #2 – Shirley Clark  – Congratulations and Thank you!
Because Shirley did something kind for someone, she is going to receive this sweet candle set.  Thank you!

Have a wonderful day,   Tereas

30 Days, 30 Gifts, Day 12 Winner

Well, today is my birthday, and my youngest son wants to be sure he gives me as many hugs as I am old today ….He’s pretty much kept me warm most of the day!  It’s funny, though – I was thinking about a ‘few’ years ago when I turned 10.  Having 6 sisters growing up, my folks didn’t really have much for extras – especially when it came to entertainment.  Well, I felt like the luckiest girl on earth that day – my mom was taking us to Disneyland!    She didn’t tell us where we were going as we were driving down the road, but when I saw the top of that Matterhorn, I don’t think I was ever so excited!  Well … being that it was Veteran’s Day (basically, we had the day off from school on the 12th), we weren’t the only ones with this idea.  It was VERY crowded.  I remember looking around and just seeing a sea of people.

Well, my mom (who was pregnant, then) wasn’t enjoying it and decided we needed to leave (I was pretty disappointed at first!).  So, she decided to do Plan B – she took us to Knotts Berry Farm (her favorite when she was a kid).  Wow.  I don’t know how she afforded it, and I knew it was an unreasonable stretch financially.  But, looking back to my childhood, it was by far one of my most memorable birthdays.  But, here’s the great part.  About 2 weeks ago I was going through some ‘memorabilia’ and I found this little suede purse with an apple appliqued on it.  I opened it up, and inside it were the Disneyland tickets (yes – I’ll date myself here – the book with remaining A,B,C,E Rides!) & Knotts Berry Farm ticket stubs from that day!  I was so tickled to find those tickets – and the purse was a gift I received that day.   A trip down memory lane can be so fun!

We have been receiving so many blogs from you all — thank you!  I’ve totally lost count, but I think we are well over 300 – and they just keep coming.  On Sunday we are going to announce another ‘Grand Prize’ – and this is so cool!  But, that means you have to keep doing those good deeds and letting us know what you are up to.  If you’ve been reading what others are up to, you will see that there is such a plethora of ideas out there.  I want to thank you ALL for making this world a better place – even in the smallest little deeds!

Vintage Homestead

Our Day 12 Winner is…
10/30  #24– Alice-  Congratulations and Thank you!

Because Alice did a good deed, she receives a Fat Quarter Bundle from one of my favorites – Whimsicals Quilts by Terri Degenkolb – the Vintage Homestead Collection.  Thank you!

30 Days, 30 Gifts, Day 3 Winner .. and Good News!

I don’t know about you, but I am so very impressed with the different kind of things that you all are doing every day -some of them even give me the chills!    And, I realize it’s not always easy (or at least the first thing we think of) to make somebody else feel good when we are in the middle of our crazy days.   That being said, some things are no brainers …

I will tell you one thing I did a couple of days ago.  One of Chocolate Donutmy sons is on the school football team, and we’ve had some pretty chilly afternoons –  as you can well imagine.  Well, on these cold days, I’ve  made it kind of ‘our thing’ to pick up my skinny vanilla latte (of which I am addicted!), and a hot chocolate and chocolate donut for him for as soon as he gets into the car  (the apple does not fall far from the tree, here …).  Anyway, I was in the coffee shop ready to place my order, and a grandpa came in with his grandson, who was probably about 9 years old – and the boy made a bee-line for the only remaining chocolate donut.   He was so happy that there was one remaining.

Yes, I’m afraid that I arrived at football practice sans donut.  Sean hopped in the car, looked around, searched under a couple of things, and then looked at me with a questioning look.  When I told him what happened, he said “That’s ok, Mom.   I’m betting that boy was really happy when he ate ‘my’ donut, and I bet he will always remember that special outing with his grandpa.”  Wow – I was so happy to know that my teenager could be so compassionate!  Of course, he did say “Tomorrow you can get me two donuts”… yes – he is still a teenager – but a least one with a good heart!

Quilt In A Cup - A Great Gift Idea!

Our Day 3 Winner is…
10/31 #39 Pamela!  Congratulations and Thank you!
Pamela will receive a fun Quilt in a Cup Kit, along with her choice of fabric pack,  because she did something kind for somebody.
Thank you Pamela!

Keep on telling us your good deed and kind acts!

You can blog them to any post this month – and you will be eligible not only for a daily prize drawing, but also the grand prize drawing at the end of the month.

Serengiti Snuggler - Click image to view our entire Snuggler Collection

Oh – and some great news!
We received word yesterday that the fabrics for the Serengeti Snuggler and Baby Cub Snuggler quilt kits will be here by the end of the week – so all preorders will ship early next week – a week earlier than we initially thought.  If you haven’t ordered yours but have been thinking you might,  you may want to asap, or you might be on the shipment due at the end of November.  Thank you!

30 Days, 30 Gifts – Day 1 Winner!

Good morning everyone!  Can you even believe this is the 1st of November?  I am always so surprised when this day comes .. it really means we are into the ‘home stretch’ for the year … that always passes by so quickly!  I know that 2009 is a year when many folks struggled, and have really had to make a lot of changes in their lives – some on purpose to help them get through these tougher times, and some that were forced upon them.  In any event, we have all been hearing about the good deeds that others have done – and so we wanted to know what our quilting readers are up to.

We are so pleased at how generous our quilting community is!  Have you read all of the kind acts and fun things your fellow quilters are doing for others?  Many have inspired me to do even more.

We  have received some questions about the 30 Days, 30 Gifts, 30 Winner Event – so let me quickly answer them here.
1.     Any act counts – no matter how small.  This is not a contest to see who gives more, but rather a way to get all of us to do a bit more for those around us.
2.     You can (and we hope are) doing an act every day – and then just blog it to us.
3.     We keep your name all month – and you can win 1 daily prize.  At the end of the month all names are eligible for the Grand Prize.  So even if you win a daily prize, keep on doing your acts of kindness as you will have more chances to win the Grand Prize.
4.     And finally, if you are a winner, we will post it here on the blog … which we are about ready to do now!Zbc-bhg2010_small

The Day 1 Winner is ….
10/31 #36 .. Sheila!
  Congratulations & Thank you!
Sheila will receive the Hot-off-the-Press 2010 Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork Calendar because she did something kind for somebody.

Be sure to let us know what you do today … and you could be a winner!

New Fabric Clubs

We all love to receive something wonderful in the mail, don’t we?  After all, it seems that we mostly receive bills and junk mail, so when something arrives that is gorgeously wrapped, then it is going to be something to make your day a wonderful one!

Japanese Fabrics fused with the American Quilter!

So, we have 2 new fat quarter clubs we think you will really enjoy.  After going to Market, we realized that there were 2 fabric companies that really stood out above the rest- Lakehouse Dry Goods and Lecien Fabrics.

Lakehouse Dry Goods - Join us for LakeHouse Living as well as the Fat Quarter Club!Lecien Fabrics - Japanese Fabrics Fusing with the U.S. Quilter!

Both had stunning booths, and both are really getting their wings in this very challenging, but rewarding, industry.  We decided to run 2 programs for each – a 10 fat quarter per month option, and a 16 fat quarter per month option.  We will send out the first set in November, so be sure to join today!  You can join or cancel at any time – we look forward to making your days just a little bit brighter!

Patchwork Party … Ready Set Go!

We are so excited to be a part of this fun Patchwork Party! I know that there are other programs out there – and they are all a great way to see the wonderful quilt shops that are on the web. But, one thing I love about Patchwork Party is how professional everything is! From the quilt images, to the Patchwork Party website, down to the very last detail the Debbie Luttrell assures is in place. And, I know that the Patchwork Party quilts are a ‘cut above’ what you might find in other programs. This time we have designed a very easy, affordable, but gorgeous quilt. The pictures just don’t do it justice (no matter how great the image is, pictures just don’t cut it if you can’t ‘touch’ the quilt!). Anyway, we were told by the quilter (Donna Peterson of Golden Acorn Quilts) it should be in a magazine – what a great compliment! And, be sure to join us in the Spring — Bittersweet Blessing always design our Spring PWP Quilts!
