Well, today is my birthday, and my youngest son wants to be sure he gives me as many hugs as I am old today ….He’s pretty much kept me warm most of the day! It’s funny, though – I was thinking about a ‘few’ years ago when I turned 10. Having 6 sisters growing up, my folks didn’t really have much for extras – especially when it came to entertainment. Well, I felt like the luckiest girl on earth that day – my mom was taking us to Disneyland! She didn’t tell us where we were going as we were driving down the road, but when I saw the top of that Matterhorn, I don’t think I was ever so excited! Well … being that it was Veteran’s Day (basically, we had the day off from school on the 12th), we weren’t the only ones with this idea. It was VERY crowded. I remember looking around and just seeing a sea of people.
Well, my mom (who was pregnant, then) wasn’t enjoying it and decided we needed to leave (I was pretty disappointed at first!). So, she decided to do Plan B – she took us to Knotts Berry Farm (her favorite when she was a kid). Wow. I don’t know how she afforded it, and I knew it was an unreasonable stretch financially. But, looking back to my childhood, it was by far one of my most memorable birthdays. But, here’s the great part. About 2 weeks ago I was going through some ‘memorabilia’ and I found this little suede purse with an apple appliqued on it. I opened it up, and inside it were the Disneyland tickets (yes – I’ll date myself here – the book with remaining A,B,C,E Rides!) & Knotts Berry Farm ticket stubs from that day! I was so tickled to find those tickets – and the purse was a gift I received that day. A trip down memory lane can be so fun!
We have been receiving so many blogs from you all — thank you! I’ve totally lost count, but I think we are well over 300 – and they just keep coming. On Sunday we are going to announce another ‘Grand Prize’ – and this is so cool! But, that means you have to keep doing those good deeds and letting us know what you are up to. If you’ve been reading what others are up to, you will see that there is such a plethora of ideas out there. I want to thank you ALL for making this world a better place – even in the smallest little deeds!
