30 Days, 30 Gifts, Days 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 & 20 – 6 Winners!

Good morning and Happy Friday to All!   Wow – we have had a crazy week around here.  With the launch of our new Sewing Room Furniture, the start of the Holiday Fab Shop Hop, and the introduction of  Better Homes & Gardens Magazine Clubs, all of those New Quilt Kits, patterns and books,  we spent the better part of the week pinging in several directions… and I did not get any quilting done as planned..

So, we are drawing names for several  Days –  15 – 20!.  We have lots of fun gifts, so here we go.  We are going to spread-out the giving in this blog  🙂

Quilt Sampler Club - 2 Publications per Year

Our Day 15 & 16 Winners are…
11/14 #3 – Michelle &  11/13 #13 – Sharon Hettinger !! Congratulations and Thank you!
Both Michelle and Sharon win a 1 year subscription the Quilt Sampler Magazine Club  …  the Gift that just keeps giving!    Quilt Sampler has 2x publications a year – in May and September.  Congratulations!

From the emails and blogs we’ve received, it sounds like everybody is pretty excited about the chance to win the Suzi.   And, hands down, the most popular Sewing cabinet so far is the Marilyn.  But, I’m not surprised – it is Arrow’s most popular cabinet, too – not only is she compact, but she is a lovely piece of furniture as well.    We had one customer purchase 2 of the Sewnatras – she said she was going to use both as nightstands next to her bed –  and one will hold her machine, and the other to hold a Singer Featherweight  that she has on her Christmas list.  What a great idea!   And, together with the free shipping, Mettler Thread Combo and Vusion Light, it really makes these deluxe cabinets a steal.  As far as the promotional suites that Kangaroo is running right now, the favorite is the Aussie Suite.  Looking at it, it seems to provide the most work surface and storage, but it a bit less expensive than the Kangaroo Suite.

Quilts & More - 2x per year

Our Day 17 & 18 Winners are…
11/19 – Marcia & 11/12 – Elaine!! Congratulations and Thank you!

Both Marcia and Elaine win a 1 year subscription to the Quilts & More Magazine Club … another Gift that just keeps giving!  Quilts & More has 4x publications a year – March, May, August & November.  Congratulations!

We received the sweetest email Tuesday morning  from Darla T.  She asked us “why are you being so generous – what do you get in return? ”  The email had a lot of other sweet comments, but this just made me smile.  Do you realize how much we feel part of such a bigger picture around here?  It sounds to me that what we are doing is having a profound affect on so many of you – not that you aren’t always givers, but that it seems everybody is making an extra effort to do a bit more.  And, because we don’t get out much, we are also living somewhat vicariously through your good deeds as well.  We all want to thank YOU for YOUR generostity!

And Finally, Our Day 19 & 20 Winners are…
11/16 – Melissa & 11/15 – Irene Schofield!  Congratulations and Thank you!

Both Melissa and Irene win a 1 year subscription to the BHG Quilt Magazine Specials Club .. yet another Gift that just keeps giving!  Better Homes & Gardens publishes 2x Specials each year – in March and October.

Another Grand Prize in our 30 Day Give Away

We are SO excited to announce our two New Sewing Room Furniture product lines — that just released today!  We now carry both Kangaroo Kabinet & Arrow Cabinets – Sewing Machine Tables, Cutting Tables, Storage Units, Complete Suites and Chairs.    And, the best part is we are going to add one of these wonderful Sewing Room Cabinets to our Grand Prize list!  Yep – we are now going to have TWO Grand Prize Winners in our 30 Days, 30 Gifts, 30 Winners Give-Away! That’s a $173.99 value when you include shipping!

Quilt a Gift .. 25 Heartfelt Projects

Not only do we have the Quilt-a-Licious Grab Bag Queen Size Quilt, but now we are also going to give away an Arrow Suzi Sidekick Sewing Storage Cabinet!  The winner will have the option for 4 different finishes – black, white, oak or cherry.

Suzi’ has plenty of storage with four drawers for a huge range of sewing notions.  Drawer stops prevent Suzi’s drawers from pulling out too far, but each drawer will glide effortlessly on slides allowing an easy reach to hard to find items in the back.

We hope you like little Suzi as much as we do!

Keep doing all of those kind acts and good deeds … and you could be a winner!

30 Days, 30 Gifts, Day 3 Winner .. and Good News!

I don’t know about you, but I am so very impressed with the different kind of things that you all are doing every day -some of them even give me the chills!    And, I realize it’s not always easy (or at least the first thing we think of) to make somebody else feel good when we are in the middle of our crazy days.   That being said, some things are no brainers …

I will tell you one thing I did a couple of days ago.  One of Chocolate Donutmy sons is on the school football team, and we’ve had some pretty chilly afternoons –  as you can well imagine.  Well, on these cold days, I’ve  made it kind of ‘our thing’ to pick up my skinny vanilla latte (of which I am addicted!), and a hot chocolate and chocolate donut for him for as soon as he gets into the car  (the apple does not fall far from the tree, here …).  Anyway, I was in the coffee shop ready to place my order, and a grandpa came in with his grandson, who was probably about 9 years old – and the boy made a bee-line for the only remaining chocolate donut.   He was so happy that there was one remaining.

Yes, I’m afraid that I arrived at football practice sans donut.  Sean hopped in the car, looked around, searched under a couple of things, and then looked at me with a questioning look.  When I told him what happened, he said “That’s ok, Mom.   I’m betting that boy was really happy when he ate ‘my’ donut, and I bet he will always remember that special outing with his grandpa.”  Wow – I was so happy to know that my teenager could be so compassionate!  Of course, he did say “Tomorrow you can get me two donuts”… yes – he is still a teenager – but a least one with a good heart!

Family Recipe Box

With the holidays bearing down upon us, we are going to start passing on some recipes from our family recipe box.   Coming from a large family, these favorites come from grandmothers, aunts, in-laws… the list goes on.

Everybody in our family always loved when Aunt Kathy would show up with her version of sweet potato casserole for our large Thanksgiving  Dinners (I don’t recall a Thanksgiving when we had less than 25 family members, and usually we were closer to 30!).  Not being a marshmallow fan, but LOVING anything sweet, this was the perfect alternative for the typical sweet potato & marshmallows that usually accompanies the great turkey dinners –  and everybody in my family loved it.  Now that we are all spread around the country, the one thing I know is that each of our families will be enjoying this dish on Thanksgiving!

thumbnailSweet Potato Casserole

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Ingredients:
1 large can sweet potatoes, drained
2 eggs
¾ cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup pecans

With an electric mixer, mash the sweet potatoes.
Beat in the eggs and ½ of the melted butter, ½ of the brown sugar and the salt and cinnamon.
Pour into a 2 quart casserole dish.
Arrange nuts on the top and sprinkle with the remaining brown sugar and butter.
Bake uncovered for 20 minutes.

Wedding Bells

23 Years since I married Ron, and I couldn’t have been luckier than to get a partner like him. We have done so much over the years … and we are so proud of our family. Our crystal ball wasn’t really working when we walked down the aisle, but I can tell you that each event, surprise, choice, and decision together has just made us more committed to this life we are sharing together. I know that many of you have also been lucky to find somebody to share your dreams with. And so, today we want to hear how you met!

Here’s our story …
Back in 1982 I was working 3 jobs … my day job was as a pricer at TRW, on weekends I worked in a travel agency, and I worked nights at Jack-in-the-Box … yikes! Well, after realizing that I was working too much, I was ready to quit my night job. It was about 10:55 of my very last night, and I was going to go home at 11:00. I was so tired. And then, a guy comes through the drive-thru and orders onion rings. No big deal, except they take 8 minutes to cook! So, he came around and I gave him grief because he was making me stay later than I wanted. Well, I didn’t mind talking to him … he was driving a pretty nice car and had a suit on – and after some of the folks I’d seen drive through, that was a nice sight for sore eyes. After a couple of minutes, he asked me for my phone number. I wasn’t really comfortable giving out my number to strangers, but he seemed okay, so I gave him my TRW work number. Low and behold, he called the next day! But, he wanted to let me know that he was going away for a week on a vacation, and Christmas was right after that. So, we talked briefly, and that was that. Then, he called me 3 weeks later to see if I wanted to go out .. .I said yes. But, I almost cancelled because I couldn’t even remember what he looked like! Thank goodnes I decided to go … and here we are 26 years later!
So, while not funny, it’s lucky that he ordered Onion Rings. Today, we always smile when he orders them …
Let me hear how you met! Oh.. and I want to extend my congratulations to Kirsten and Jeff … they were both born on the day Ron and I got married, and they are getting married tomorrow!! What are the chances of that?

Sharpest Needle in the Pincushion

Well, I want to say that I’ve never proclaimed to be the sharpest needle in the pin cushion. And, this time I feel pretty dumb … I don’t know HOW, but I somehow got two very different ‘Jennifer’s mixed up … and I’m thankful that I have some followers who set me straight! Duh… but, this certainly does make some sense to me. Somehow, I got Jennifer Paganelli and Jennifer Chiaverini mixed up … could it be that they are both Italian? They both design gorgeous fabrics? You know… the name Paganelli is a pet name for Pagan, which means ‘village dweller’, and Chiaverini is a diminutive of Chiavaro, an occupational name for a ‘locksmith’. So I can see how I got confused. Afterall, I’m thinking ‘village dweller’ and ‘locksmith’ … in the end they both need a quilt! Does that work? No? Well, I thank you all for setting me straight, anyway!
