Tuesday’s Talkabout

Tuesday's Talkabout - where we show what were all dabbling, babbling and gabbying in!It’s time for Tuesday’s Talkabout!  But, we need to introduce ourselves – we should have done this sooner!  On the left, my name is Sheanna – I am just a quilter who loves to poke around different quilting blogs – I can learn so much from all you smart quilters! My favorite fabrics are Cottons and Batiks – and I love MINKY!

And on the right, I’m Barb!  I am also a quilter, but my favorite thing to do is just let fabric ‘speak’ to me!  I love to work with wool, flannel and silks!   And, be sure to see below … we want to know your favorite, and there’s a prize to give away!

So, last week we were ‘dark’ .. we didn’t get a chance to post on Tuesday – and we are so sorry!      Yes, because we needed announce our Talkabout Winner – and it was easy with just 5 entries.  All we had to do was put those names into a box .. and voila!  Our winner is goonyburd!    Goonyburd (love the name) is the winner of a $20 Gift Certificate that Teresa gave us to do what we will … and stay tuned, because she’s given us more!

Baltimore Brides by Karen

Baltimore Brides by Karen

This week’s Talkabout Customer Creation is by Karen!   It’s a Baltimore Brides Wool on Flannel kit that she started with us last year.

What amazes me is that Karen kept up with the BOM!  I’m not so good about that!  I am usually about 4 months behind.  But, this sure inspires me to get another block done.  I’m actually not doing this one, but a similar one that is wool on wool called Antique 1800-1940s .. and I love it!3-Musketeers

And, lets show this weeks Creative Team feature!  So Teresa had this one in her vault.  She didn’t want to display the quilt the ‘usual’ way .. but I think this is ingenious!  This is a quilt from a Patchwork Party several years back.     Yep – and I heard a rumor that she is redesigning the sampler blocks and we will get to have this beautiful quilt available to all!

So, I’ve been poking around some of the blogs that you folks are up to, and this time I’m excited to feature Alice from Future Girl Blog   Now, this gal can knit!  But, what I really love are the Fanged Pumpkins – be sure to scroll down.  Also, drop Alice a note to let her know you were there!

As you can all imagine, things are really hopping at Homespun Hearth these days.  Last night the huge Giveaway ended, and the winners can be found here.  But, it turns out we went from one great Giveaway to ANOTHER!  Yesterday we launched the 11th Annual 12 Days of Quilting!  Another Giveaway, and this one will have 12 Prizes and 12 Winners!  Be sure to hop on over to check it out HERE.

Finally, we want to know YOUR Favorite Fabrics!  This week we have a $15 Voucher to give away — just leave us a comment here with your favorite fabric – and if you want to get detailed, such as letting us know your favorite manufacturer (ie:  Lecien Cottons, or Hoffman Batiks, etc) – that would be awesome!   Next week we’ll announce the winner.

In the mean time, Don’t Miss a Thing!  Be sure to Follow this blog, and click on the icons below to stay connected — so many things happening ALL THE TIME at Homespun Hearth!

Baltimore Brides

We are excited to announce that we are opening up reservations for our extremely popular “Baltimore Brides” block of the month program.

baltimore bride

This stunning design, inspired by an 1847 Baltimore Brides Quilt, has been adapted to wool by Jackie Aspessos of Lakeview Primitives. This gorgeous reproduction quilt comes in 2 version — either flannel and wool or Matka Silk and wool — both beautiful combinations.  The background fabric (in either black or ivory, and flannel or Silk) are striking backdrops for the motifs that are hand-dyed wool applique. The 12 block quilt measures 68″ x 83″. This is the perfect heirloom that you can give that special bride in your life.

If you have ever been inspired to make a quilt that will be handed down from generation to generation, this is where you can begin. There is no reason to be intimidated by this beautiful quilt, each block is broken down into easy to follow directions. Block of the month kits offer fabrics and supplies in a convenient monthly shipment. With a once a month program you will find a single block becomes a

Brides-Quilt

manageable project to complete. Soon you will find you have it all done with no stress or guilt that can accompany unfinished projects. You can sit back and admire your work. Here you will have the opportunity to applique and quilt with wools or silks that you might not have tried, if you shopped at you average quilt shop.

Step up your quilting skills with “Baltimore Brides” and create a family heirloom.

How Many Winners Today?

Whew … Right now I feel a little bit in a daze! I know we all have so much going on … in our personal as well as professional lives. Together with the Harvest Festival we have going on right now, as well as the Thanksgiving Holiday and now Christmas preparations, we are being pulled in so many directions! But, that doesn’t mean we have forgotten you. Still, my favorite thing to do when a take a few moments each day is to read the kind deeds you all are doing.

I realized last night that some of you may be wondering what we are doing to contribute to the kind acts. Inspired by many of you, we have had a week of giving around here … cleaning out closets and donating 8 giant bags of clothes, plus we brought in dozens of like-new toys, games and puzzles. My husband and son worked at the soup kitchen all day on Monday – they served over 600 people that day – and you can believe it made quite an impression on my teenager. I have also been making my boys more aware of what’s going on around them … pointing out a lady to help with her grocery cart (they get stuck in the snow on the way out to the car), and I had my oldest offer to pump the gas for an older man – the gentleman told me it reminded him of the old days when that was part of the service – and was so thankful! We have a homeless man who lives down in town, and so we picked up a pre-cooked chicken for him, a couple of apples, a bag of cookies, and a couple of water bottles – the smile alone was a huge reward. As you can imagine, we have become quite friendly with our local PO. So, we brought in a batch of fudge on Wednesday – they were all so grateful to know that we care! Because we are involved in the Scouts, I always order extra wreaths, trees & centerpieces – and bring them to 3 of the senior citizen homes around here. While we have had such a giving week, what I’m really trying to instill in my boys is the importance of year round thoughtfulness – my boys are very fortunate, so it is their responsibility to help those around them.

Okay, so now on to the past few days of winners. Where were we? Oh Yeah .. Days 21 – 28 … Yikes! But, that’s ok – we have something special for each of these winners … they each receive a $25 Gift Certificate from Homespun Hearth! These Gift Certificates are valid from December 1 – 31, 2009, so they can have a little something extra to spend for the holidays.

Our Day 20-28 Winners are…
Patty – 11/25 Post
Kate – 11/22 Post
Karen Propes – 11/22 Post
Cindy C. – 11/20 Post

Have a wonderful day!

30 Day, 30 Gifts, Day 11 Winner

Good morning all and Thank you to all Veterans!  As most of you know, I am surrounded by many Veterans – my husband was in the Air Force for 24 years, my brother-in-law is currently an Army Reservist, and so many of my dearest friends are married to those who serve and have served.  And, to help pay it back some, we are ‘hosts’ for cadets at the AF Acadamy – a kind of home away from home.   Well, apparently the words is out that we love the cadets … we now sponsor 8 different cadets, and at any given time, we could have as many as 11 or 12 over (they bring their friends, too).  So, together with my 3 teen boys, wanna take a guess at my grocery bill for a typical Cadet visit?   Well, it isn’t pretty – but it is worth it!   There are basically 3 things cadets do … eat …. sleep …. eat.  Well, they throw in a game of football or basketball, and they do their laundry, too!

Fireworks Crystals Surprise!

So, I think it is only appropriate I do something Veterany today.

Today’s winner receives a Firework’s Crystal wall hanging kit – something quite patriotic!
Our Day 11 Winner is…
11/8  #9 – Helen White !  Congratulations and Thank you!

Because Helen White did something kind she wins this great kit!

Have a great day!

30 Days, 30 Gifts, Days 9 & 10 Winners!

Well – I was a bit remiss yesterday getting this blog out.   Monday’s are always a bit crazy around here, and yesterday was even more than normal.  For those of you participating in the Agatha & Sherlock Mystery, I’m sure you understand why 🙂

So, here is something I heard on the radio yesterday when I was dropping the kids off at school.  The radio announcer (we will call her Mom) was remembering a time when her little boy was really little (he is now a police man, so I’m guessing 20+ years ago).  Anyway, it was a rainy day and the two of them were in the grocery store getting ready to check out when she heard the little old lady in front of her ask the clerk to call her a taxi.  Well, the ‘Mom’ intervened and told the lady that she would take her home if she didn’t mind waiting for a few more minutes.  The lady was so grateful for the ride, and she told ‘Mom’ that everyday she tries to do something nice for somebody – and she especially enjoyed the annonymous things she did.  But, she also noticed something else … that people always did kind things for her too.

Hmmmm – does this tell you something?  I am a true believe of ‘What goes around, Comes Around’ – not that I think any of you are hoping and waiting for people to do you good deeds, but I would bet that most of you have wonderful people around you all of the time, and you are all helping each other in even the littlest ways.  By reading all of the comments, anyone can see that every one of these acts is impacting the life of somebody, somehow – and you all should be so very proud.

A Delightful Collection of Christmas Projects

So, back to the winners ….

Both the Day 9 & Day 10 Winners will receive one of our very Favorite Christmas Books – Christmas with Artful Offerings – I can smell the gingerbread from here!

Our Day 8 Winner is…
11/8  #2 – Julie Clifton &
11/4 #15 –  Jeannette !  Congratulations and Thank you!

You both did something nice for somebody, so we want to do something for you.  While what we do is not always noticed, I hope that you ALL know how much we appreciate you, what you do, and who you are!

Have a wonderful day!

30 Days, 30 Gifts, 30 Winners!

With Thanksgiving and the winter holidays ahead of us, we decided that it was time to let all of our quilting Givingfriends know how special you all are to us.  So, we have a special event planned for the month of November – 30 Days, 30 Gifts, 30 Winners!  We hope you all will participate .. not for us, but for those around you!

What Homespun Hearth has Planned:
A Month Of Giving from Homespun Hearth! That’s right – for 30 days we will give 30 gifts to 30 winners for the entire month of November!  Every day we are going to select one participant to receive a special gift from Homespun Hearth.  We know that a lot of people have struggled financially over the past couple of years, and yet this hasn’t stopped them from being kind to others and doing good deeds.  We believe that there’s no better person than a quilter, and we know that you are giving a helping hand at every turn.  We want to let you all know that we appreciate who you are and what you do, and so we would like to reward you the best way we know how … with great quilting goodies!

How to win:
30 days, 30 gifts, 30 winners … and one of those could be you! What’s the catch, you ask? No catch! Well, not really. Here is how it goes – for the month of November, we want to ‘reward’ those of you who do a special deed or act  of kindness for somebody… anybody – and you just have to let us know!   And don’t be shy.  What you do may sometimes go unnoticed, but we want to make sure that this time it does not!  Simply post your deed or act on this blog, and we will put your name in the ‘Drawing Pot’.  Well, it isn’t actually a pot.  It’s more like a bowl.  A huge bowl.  But, it works!  Once you tell us your story, you are eligible for a drawing every day of the month.  You can only win one of the daily prizes,  but everybody who does any act of kindness or special deed will be placed in the grand prize drawing … a wonderfulf Queen Size Quilt Kit from our Quilt-a-lisious Grab Bag!  You can do one act all month, or you can get more chances to win if you get your name added every day  by doing a daily deed!  You just have to let us know .  Mostly, we know  that the quilting community will be impressed at the wonderful nature of our quilters!

What we are giving:
We have some pretty great stuff we are giving away – everything from yards of fabric, the new Better Homes & Garden 2010 Quilting Calendar, fat quarter bundles, quilt kits, jelly rolls and books, just to name a few.  Every gift will come specially wrapped, plus you will recieve an additional shopping coupon for your next order at Homespun Hearth!

So, starting today all you have to do is blog something here that you have done today that was just a bit more than you needed to.  Just post to this blog, and beginning on Sunday November 1st, we will begin to draw names!

Thank you for being so giving!

Teresa & the entire Homespun Hearth Customer Care Team!
